A Romantic Affair

These two might look familiar -Molly and Andre’ modeled for our 2018 Rocky Mountain Bride photo shoot in the summer and I had the honor of creating flowers for their romantic and glamorous wedding in the fall at The Brinton Museum. The day was unexpectedly snowy and absolutely gorgeous.

Captured by Kerns Photography.

We loaded the tables with sweet clusters of roses - sweetly named Hearts! Handfuls of petals and so many candles completed the tables and the room was practically glowing when all lit for the evening. The groom’s mother provided individual paintings on miniature canvases for each guest and after setting up we toured the room to find our favorites.

I usually keep a few houseplants around with interesting textures and leaves to help fill in when making these little beauties and everyone so far is a huge fan of the brass flower cuffs instead of traditional wrist corsages. That little variegated leaf comes from an ivy that hangs in our playroom most of the year and makes me so happy.

Molly requested something romantic with an Italian countryside twist. I used cotinus, PeeGee hydrangeas and the ever lovely blushing bride protea in her bouquet.

Keeping it hot while the snow flies!

A woodsy wedding near the Big Horn Mountains

Maria and her love live in North Dakota but planned a destination wedding in Sheridan, WY last summer. She wanted something with neutral colors and a woodsy feel. We used birch bark containers and some of her favorite succulents in her bouquet. They had a party with all their friends at the Big Horn Equestrian Center on a smoky August afternoon. Thanks to KEskury Photography for capturing these images.

Something for the men.

Those first look vibes…

Because family is everything.

Maria requested a special arrangement to honor the memory of her mother made with her favorites - sunflowers. These creamy pale yellow ones were a knockout.

For the party

Congratulations you two!

Flowers with Friends

After attending a gathering for friends in 2018 around flowers and fun drinks, Meg asked if I would host a private class in her home the next time I had a chance to visit Colorado. Earlier this month I made a trip down with my kiddos to visit family and see a favorite band play. I had a free morning and scheduled a class around mimosas and flowers with Meg and some of her girlfriends.

I choose a base of salal, boronia and forsythia and used a few roses and the season’s best ranunculus for focal flowers. We made arrangements, enjoyed some tasty snacks and talked all things flowers. Thank you for having me and capturing the fun! Ps - Meg is a pretty phenomenal photographer too!

Look like fun? Let’s plan a party! I love bringing people together around flowers. Classes for 4 - 12 people available - I bring the flowers and tools, you bring the friends and laughter.

Polo Club and Powder Horn transformation

These flowers did double duty for a weekend long wedding celebration here in Sheridan, WY. The entire weekend was coordinated by the talented ladies from Cloud 9 Wedding Planners from Denver, CO and they helped us pull these events off without a hitch. The talented Alissa Ferullo Photography captured the details beautifully!

We started with rustic birch containers filled with textured, variegated greenery, curly willow and flowers in shades of blue and white. The moody weather on a Thursday evening at the Big Horn Equestrian Center provided the perfect backdrop for the rehearsal dinner provided by Kiwi Catering.

After the guests moved onto their next party, we returned to collect the pieces for a refresh at the studio. They made a new appearance a few days later with bright pops of yellow added for the wedding day brunch hosted at the Powder Horn Country Club. We mixed the arrangements with a series of fun bottles using the same colors and flowers to fill up the room.

Favorite behind the scenes 2018

I attempt to make time during final event prep to capture the beauty in my studio - with limited success. Depending on the day I may have the perfect light and plenty of time to play, snapping dozens on shots with my iPhone before the flowers go out the door. Other’s it’s mad dash to snap 3 as they are loaded into a vehicle. I may have captured just what I wanted but more often than not, I hope and pray the professionals can capture my work for me.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the studio (and front pathway and backyard) that I captured in 2018.

All boxed up!

A collection of favorites after packing up arrangements and bouquets for traveling.

Time for a closeup.

This was apparently the year I spent an inordinate amount of time oohing and awing over roses and ranunculus.
