Myca's Favorite Gifts

For obvious reasons, I think flowers or a new potted plant are always a great gift, and I often treat myself to a fresh grocery store bunch when I don’t have flowers in the studio (give me all the spring tulip or daffodil bunches or antique carnations). As we all know, professionally designed floral arrangements can be expensive, and sometimes we need to mix it up for time or budget constraints. Here are a few of my favorite things to gift or receive.

If fresh flowers are on the list, a few pro tips: call the local flower shop directly rather than simply clicking a “buy now” button on a website, ask for the designer’s choice and share color or flower preferences.

Citrus

I fell in love with The Sister’s Market a few years ago and every box of oranges that has arrived on our doorstep has been divine. These boxes are my go-to gift for all occasions when oranges are in season. This family-owned farm picks each orange to order; I promise they won’t disappoint. (No kickbacks here, I love supporting other small businesses)

Poppy & Pout Lip Balm

My absolute favorite lip balm - they come in eco-friendly cardboard tubes, are 100% natural, and are untinted! There are so many amazing flavors and the gift bundles are packaged perfectly for gifting. What’s better for Valentine’s Day than soft lips! You can find some flavors locally at Jackalope Ranch - call Pam to see what’s in stock. (No kickbacks here, I just love supporting other small businesses)

Poetry

Did you ever see the Haiku “I do not have ducks or a row. I have squirrels and they’re at a rave”? The moment I laid eyes on it I knew I had to find the maker of such magic. Her name happens to be Lori Hetteen and ever since that fateful day in 2016, I’ve been a huge fan. Her little books of poetry (pocket-sized!) are balm to my heart, and her prints are a favorite gift.

Creativity - Painting

Know someone who’s curious about painting or wants to improve their skill? Let me introduce you to Jana L. Bussanich, watercolor artist and author. She’s got a newly released watercolor technique book and a range of online classes to support a creative journey through painting.

A toasty mug

I’ve got a thing for handmade mugs and a small but growing collection from a few different makers. They’re art and function which is the best of both worlds. A few of my favorites include Sheridan Local Red Bison Studio and these makers who have mugs in our collection already: Huskmilk Pottery and Paulova Ceramics. Add a bag of their favorite coffee, box of tea, or some cocoa for the perfect gift.

Tell me, what gifts do you love to give or receive? Any favorite makers, products, or shops you love to support? If you’re gifting something from this list, I’d love to hear about it.

Wildflower September Wedding

Dilyn & Jonathan - They were married in the wilds of the Big Horn Mountains and skipped a bridal party to spend some time with their horses before the wedding. Their family and friends gathered around them - sans seating - for an intimate, riverside ceremony.

Dilyn wore the stunning a-line Lotus dress from Vow’d, while Jonathon donned the perfect pale blue suit with a tan hat. So very classy and perfect for their scorching hot September wedding.

Dilyn requested a wildflower-inspired bouquet full of texture and all the color I could muster. I sourced zinnias, snapdragons, and verbena, among a few other treasures, from local farms and filled in with other fine-textured items from my wholesaler. They had a series of sweet hob-nail vases filled with wildflower bouquets for their casual tent reception near Hyattsville, WY. Wyoming wedding photographer ANAFINN Photography captured all the glorious details.

Who holds your bouquet when there isn’t a bridal party? The groom of course! I’m always a sucker for men with gorgeous bouquets in hand.
